Allrighty, whilst waiting for the upcoming beta registration feature, I figured it might be nice to have a thread where willing beta readers could sort of present themselves.This way, authors who haven't yet found themselves a beta, or are looking for different persons to test their texts on, will be able to find you brave volunteers!
When signing up, by replying to this post, state the following:
- What you are willing to beta the text for (plot, structure, language, grammar, characters... you name it, don't forget to mention if you have any specialities)
- What ratings you are willing to beta
- Preferences and restrictions with the contents; likes and dislikes
(genre preferences, favored/disliked pairings, how smutty/violent/angstic the fic can be, fave characters, hated characters... in general what you like and don't like)
- How to contact you, (PM, e-mail?) and in what format you might want to read the fic in? (mail body, attachment?).
Also, feel free to add details about yourself like what languages you speak, your hobbies, interests etc...
Should I for example want to set my fic somewhere in Sweden, I might be asking a Swede to do some betawork for the cultural references and so on... you never know?  Or maybe I could ask a med student to do check out my medical terminology, and so forth... So a little presentation might not hurt?

If you see a beta here that you want to try co-operating with, I suggest you always send a polite message and ask first, and briefly tell:
- what the fic is about, rating, pairing, genre etc..
- what you'd want it betaed for
- how big a gig this might be

Yeah, I'm surprisingly interested in betareading, as I love fine-tuning stuff and making good stuff even better...
What I can beta for:
Characterization, pacing, use of language, dialogue... anything goes. You should be warned, though, that I'm not a native speaker of English, I'm not always good with slang and idiomatic expressions. This doesn't stop me from being a nitpick with language. You have been warned.
Ratings:
All, pretty much.
Preferences and restrictions:
Genre: Not really into crossovers or songfics.
Pairings: Preference for K/W, but willing to experiment; Kennedy/male might be a bit weird, but hey, if you do it really well, then I might give it a shot.
Character dislikes: Riley, Angel, occasionally Xander.
Other: Violence and sex scenes should both have points in order to keep me really interested. So not betaing splatters or PWP:s, unless the story has a moral of some kind.
How to contact, format restrictions:
PM first, my e-mail might change, so PM is the best way. I am sometimes painfully busy, though, so my availability for betareading varies with the workload my boss has...
No MS-Word attachments, only .txt or .RTF, or then just mail body
Fun-to-know facts:
Born 1978, registered partnership since March 2002, no children yet, except for the three furry ones that go 'meow'. Law student with plenty of weird things to occupy herself with.
Languages: Finnish, Swedish (native), English (advanced level for a non-native), German (sadly, poor), Russian (just the alphabet and a few words). I also understand Danish and Norwegian, along with some other languages related to those I really know. Oh, also a few Latin phrases, I don't really know Latin, unfortunately....
Hobbies and interests: Role-playing games, music, musical instruments, medieval society (not SCA, though, local Finnish one), history, pagan/wiccan religions, writing and reading Willow-related fanfic, IRC, computer gaming (adventure and strategy games), comics...
Other interesting tidbits:
I grew up in an antique shop/second hand books&comics store, owned by my parents - we lived in the same house, so I never ran out of reading when I was a kid, and I know more than is healthy about most comics ever published in Finland.

quick answer: someone who reads over your fanfic for you to correct errors, weak plots, characterization and inconsistancies that computers can't. they can also offer advice and/or suggestions. I.E. very helpful

I'll beta for practically anything however my strengths are language, grammar and characterization.

Preferably NC-17 or above, but I'm happy to beta all ratings.

I have a preference towards Faith/Kennedy, and I'm also getting kind of keen on Buffy/Kennedy but I will beta anything except Kennedy/Dawn fic. I'd rather not read non-consenual smut unless it flows with the storyline, but no issue with violence in fights or angst/

Umm...I'll go with Frost on that I really hate crossovers. Right now the season rewrites and the stories where Kennedy and Willow meet differently are my personal favorites. Also the continuations of the stories. As far as characters I prefer to work with...anyone except Angel, Riley, and occasionally Dawn and Anya. It all depends on how they're written. I get bored with PWP.
How to contact you:
PM...or e-mail; it's all the same to me. But please, no attachments, my computer has a way of making them dissapear.
Interesting facts:
Hmmm...this is an interesting place to post things about myself. I speak English and have had six years of Spanish. I'm not fluent, but I can help you out in some respects.
Um...there's lots more that isn't really related to what you'd be looking for in a beta reader. But, if you're really curious, PM me and I'll think of something.

I'm very open-minded. As far as characters go, I don't mind appearances by other, but I'd prefer to get them to a minimum. Especially non-related characters and storyline, i.e. Xander and Anya. Aslo, season rewrites are becoming big with me. I love how Willow and Kennedy mee differently.

What you are willing to beta the text for:
Pretty much everything. I may not be one hundred percent Proofreader Gal on punctuation but I can direct you to sound sounding characters. I'm especially great with Willow, Anya, Dawn and a lot of the tertiaries like Clem, etc. My specialty is slanguage and I lead panels on how to write it at cons.
What ratings you are willing to beta: Any and all

Do not care much for crossovers or songfics or Willow abuse. If yer gonna abuse her there better be a gooood reason or, uh-uh, not gonna believe you. But please, feel free to abuse Buffy all you like :lol:

What you are willing to beta the text for? Anything you want me to. I'm open for everything. Though if there is something I don't feel comfortable doing, I will tell you of course.
And hey you never know, but if there are people who are willing to write a fic in Dutch, I'm up for betaing. My native language is Dutch.
What ratings you are willing to beta? All the ratings are okay for me.
Preferences and restrictions with the contents? My favored pairings are W/K, B/F. But that doesn't mean I won't beta any others. I'm open for about every pairing. After all, it's all about the story to me.
What I don't like is baaaaad endings. Ha, really. But if it's a 'good' ending to a good story, I'm willing to go for it
Hated characters? Not so much hated, more to the point of, they're annoying. But again, I'm open for anything.
