The site provides many possibilities of giving feedback to the authors about their fics. There is the 'review' - option in connection with the fics, there are the traditional private messages and e-mail options and now also this new forum section for more interactive discussion.
Traditionally, the 'review' option on the fanfic archive side has been working as some kind of a guest book, lowering the treshold of actually giving some feedback to the author - type in a few lines and send and ta-daa, you have acknowledged the author that you've read the fic, and what you thought about it.
At this point I would like to point out that the authors love getting feedback. I haven't yet talked to an author who would not like to know that someone is actually reading what they've written. So even if it's just a few words, like "I really like this fic", I would strongly encourage that you take your time and let the author know you were there and enjoyed it.
However, most authors would also like to know why you liked the fic. I know, it's not always easy to come up with a specific reason why you liked it, especially if the whole text is excellent and well balanced (well, you might want to say THAT if you want to..), but if there's some aspect of it, like the dialogue or descriptions that really feel special, please tell! One good way of telling what you liked is quoting a small piece of the text and telling that this one caught your attention, and why.
Of course, if you feel like you want to do a longer review, you can write that right there on the 'review' thing there, OR now there's a possibility of starting a thread to discuss a certain fic here, in a more interactive way, without making the review page on the archive side look too messy.
Not all feedback has to be positive. But in case you have something less positive to say, instead of bashing and flaming the author, you should give constructive criticism and at least let the author know why you disliked something. Even better, give a suggestion how to fix that. Remember, that just plain being rude is very unconstructive, and will just hurt the author's feelings. So writing "This fic sucks" will lead nowhere and won't help the author to become a better writer. If that is all you can come up with, don't bother reviewing.
If you feel like your feedback is a bit too harsh to be given in public, I recommend you give it by e-mail or PM. Whether you give the feedback in public or private, remember also that HOW you say something is as important as what you say. Tone of voice and choice of words matter - instead of insulting the author's ability to spell, you might politely suggest that using a spell checker and/or a beta reader might help get rid of those typoes. And so forth.
One more thing: Do not be rude to other reviewers, either! If you disagree with them about something, discuss it in a civil manner and politely. Telling their opinion sucks, or that their spelling sucks or whatever is just not very constructive. Don't get personal!
Remember that even other people read the reviews. So please, don't include spoilers in your public feedback, or at least work around them, like "I liked the surprise ending!". If you want to discuss more about the ending or surprising turns with the author, I once again suggest e-mail or PM.
If you're discussing a fic on a thread here, and are mentioning something that could be a spoiler, please warn about that in advance and then, preferably, use a smaller sized text or something so that those who haven't read the fic yet, but are interested to know whether it's worth reading, won't be spoiled about the ending or crucial turning points.

And then back to the program....  Those who have read the fic and can't be spoiled will be able to read it by highlighting it with the mouse... and the discussion should of course be done in the same way...

Frost thanks for the nice words for all the Readers.
Ich denke das eure ganze Arbeit letzten endes für uns Leser ist.
Nun ich will keine langen Worte machen und hoffe das alle Leser positve Kritik an den Stories verüben. Sinnvolle Kritik wird überall geschätzt.
Liebe Leser schreibt Reviews Reviews und noch mehr Reviews somit unterstütz ihr auch die Authoren, so wie ich hoffe, es auch getan zu habe.

It´s hard this days to write a review, but i love all the really good stories. For me it´s unbelieveable, with which devotion the Authors their stories write. The Selection of each individual Character, the actions within the Stories, is for ME, Expression artistic know.
All Authors are Brilliant - and i think that it very courage to publish it´s work here.  I hope, no Author gives itself struck of its own Story. I assume that there very very many people, which provide for Inspiration.
I think all of you know what i mean.
Frost - i know you do this only for fun :P
PoorGirlMe - I love the GERMAN Slayer Lil, she is really cute, and your German sentence is cute too, thanks i know what you would say with it. :lol:
I stop with my Babbel for the real Comments.

Hi Everyone
Irgendwie fühle ich mich unwohl hier, den keiner außer mir, postet hier etwas oder hat etwas zusagen deshalb gönne ich mir den Luxus und schreibe auf deutsch.
Frost du weißt was ich über deine Story denke, und PoorGirlMe weiß es auch, ich finde das jeder Author hier etwas ganz besonderes ist, ich mag die düstern aber auch die witzigen Stories, die ernsten und die darmatischen. Von Survivor 271 war ich begeister. Ich liebe es diese Gesichten immer wieder zulesen aber erneut habe ich JEMANDEN endeckt und es fällt mir schwer neue Reviews zuschreiben.
Ich hoffe das ich noch viel von EUCH ALLEN lesen werde

I'm sorry you feel uneasy, I really appreciate everything you contribute to the authors, positive feedback is always nice, it's part of what keeps me writing so much.
I really hope that despite everything that you continue to be a regular in reviewing and posting here, maybe even give us our first German fanfic in the archive!

I'll just go 'ditto' on what PoorGirlMe said. *nods furiously* I totally agree!
And seeing someone brave enough to post and review in German is just so cool! 8) And those who have trouble understanding can always use http://freetranslation.com or some similar service to get at least a vague idea of what is being said.

I would only say i am the only person / Reader who write here my thoughts, and i have a little problem with what are they thinking.
Okay i make not really good reviews but i think i can write what i didn´t like or what i like, i like for e.g(?) a lot of Keinbusse or German Slayers, or a lot of babbeling.
But hanging in the middle of nothing, after a good Chapter i do not really like.
I like also Sequels.
So Authors please write write write i am a really really good READER

Hi it's me again. Frost i am happy to hear that you are working on the next chapters. I really curious what´s happend next
Mikah the Girl in Survivor 271 reaminds me on the Girl in Chosen - the "BASEBALLGIRl sounds stupid but when ever i read this Fic i must think on this Girl.
PoorGirlMe how big should the step are away from you Seguels Will/Kenn Kenn/Will. Oh I love the Want Take Have Series ok its not fair if i write only four or five Titles.
I love the new Slayers Kate, Ash, Cass and LIL
I love all Fanfiction´s they are all Individuell and Great.

I am with that Girl- SlayerOne you are crazy but don´t stop with your writing (reviews). Perhaps some Authors are really like your reviews and they helping someone.
Yay I am the Marlboro Girl i love Shovel´s and i write only stupid reviews, but i think some of them are also funny.
